CHASETOWN dug deep to pick up a point at Vauxhall Motors after being reduced to ten men in the first half.

A swirling wind caused issues for both sets of players in the opening exchanges, but the Scholars almost made the most of it as a corner was cleared off the line by Adam Hughes to deny them.

The returning Curtis Pond was forced into action at the other end as he saved well to deny Kyle King after 15 minutes.

Fin Heath fired wide for Vauxhall ten minutes later before Matt Hearsey saw a curling effort kept out by home keeper Jack Atkinson.

But Chasetown's task got tougher ten minutes before the break when Joel Kettle saw red after bringing down Michael Burkey.

The Scholars didn't sit back to defend, though, as Atkinson was forced into a great low save.

Vauxhall opened the second period brightly with Burkey's shot from distance going over the bar.

The deadlock was broken on 55 minutes as the hosts made their numerical advantage count when Burkey's cross was headed home by Ryan Liu.

But Chasetown hit back on 66 minutes when Kevin Monteiro's shot found a way past Atkinson to level things up.

The game was turned completely five minutes later when Adam Rooney brought down Kyle Moseley in the box. The Scholars forward dusted himself down to fire home the resulting spot kick and put the visitors 2-1 in front.

Vauxhall thought they'd levelled through veteran striker Kevin Ellison on 82 minutes, but the flag cut short his celebrations.

But there was no denying him moments later when Chasetown's appeals for a free kick were dismissed and Ellison stabbed home a loose ball to ensure both teams were forced to share the spoils.
