# Top 10 female comedian joins Lichfield Festival line-up

Perrier Comedy Award-winner, Laura Solon is to appear as part of this year’s Lichfield Festival programme.

Solon, who has been included in The Guardian’s selection of the [10 Best Female Comedians](http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2010/apr/04/10-best-female-comedians-merritt?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) will perform her show Rabbit Faced Story Soup at the Lichfield Garrick on Saturday 10th July. Solon appears in The Guardian list alongside legends Victoria Wood and Joan Rivers and is only the second woman to have won the Perrier Comedy Award which she did at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

She then she has written and starred in her own TV show *Laura, Ben and Him (ITV2)* and two series of her radio show *Talking and Not Talking*, as well as appearing in *Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul Series 1 and 2 (BBC One)*, and *Al Murray’s Multiple Personality Disorder (ITV1)*.

In her show she plays a host of literary eccentrics, from a thwarted feminist to a planning officer turned sci-fi writer. Her favourite is an agent called Marcie. “I have done a lot of underachieving characters in the past so this time I wanted to do a powerful character who could swear creatively,” she told the Times. “This was inspired by an elderly American lady I overheard getting increasingly incensed at the way the envelopes were displayed in W H Smith. Her rage was magnificent.”

Bruce Dessau, reviewing one of her shows in the Evening Standard, writes: “Solon executes each character with laser-guided precision and a lightness of touch. There are inevitable flashes of Victoria Wood and Catherine Tate, but there is gobsmacking originality, too.”
