Burntwood’s [James Tucker](http://www.jamesjtucker.co.uk/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) has enjoyed a successful return to circuit racing.

After more than a year off, the racing driver was back for the Atom Cup at Castle Coombe after a last minute deal was struck.

But with such a late call – just days before the race – meant he headed into qualifying behind the wheel of a car he had never driven before.

However, the rust was soon shaken off as Tucker clocked the fifth fastest time – a position he held in race one.

The result meant a pole start in the second battle of the day. A poor getaway saw him slip to fourth before a dramatic 125mph incident saw the Burntwood driver forced off the track. He recovered and managed to close a ten second gap to the leader before taking the lead with just five laps to go – a result he held to the finish.

“I am really grateful to the guys from the Atom Cup for giving me this chance to race on the circuits again,” Tucker said. “It was a wonderful day for me, taking a win the first time I have sat in the car and have to say racing against some great drivers in such a high profile and well run championship – I hope I will get another chance to pitch myself against them soon.

“But for the time being it is back to Stock Car racing for me, well fixing it anyway, after an engine failure at Coventry Stadium last month.”
