Georgia, Lewis and Harry on the hunt for bugs

Children are invited to go on the hunt for creepy crawlies or to add a splash of colour to bird boxes at two events running at Chasewater.

Lichfield District Council’s rangers are holding the Mini Beast Mayhem Bug Hunt on August 21 from 1pm to 3pm.

The rangers will be leaving no stone unturned at Chasewater Country Park on the hunt for mini beasts, in an activity that is suitable for children of all ages.

Ranger Ellen Williams said: “Lots of children enjoy the excitement of seeing what insects they can find under stones and bits of bark.

“This event is a great way to excite their imagination, while finding out lots about the different insects that live in the country park.”

It costs £2 for each child to take part and no booking is needed.

On the following day, the council’s parks and countryside teams are holding a bird box painting session.

Running on August 22 between 10.30am and 3pm, it costs £3.50 to paint a bird box, which can then be taken home and hung up, adding a splash of colour to local gardens.

Justine Lloyd, Lichfield District Council’s countryside manager, said: “Adding a design to a bird box is a good way to get children to think about the birds in their gardens.

“It’s a fun event with the added bonus of taking home your very own bird box, which will hopefully be a popular home to a families of birds over the years.”

All children must be accompanied by an adult to both events. For more information, contact Chasewater rangers on 01543 370607 or email [chasewater@lichfielddc.gov.uk](mailto:chasewater@lichfielddc.gov.uk).
