VANDALS have smashed windows at a new building being constructed for a local group for young people with disabilities.

The Liberty Jamboree facility is being built at Lichfield Sports Club off Eastern Avenue and is set to become the organisation’s first permanent home.

But when workers arrived at the site this morning (31st July) they discovered that rocks had been thrown through all of the newly-installed windows.

The chair of Liberty Jamboree’s trustees Ashley Hall said:

> “The devastation is absolutely heart-wrenching. Our young members – many of whom live with complex needs and have been counting down the days to move in – are struggling to understand why someone would do this.
>
> “The emotional toll this has taken on them is immeasurable.
>
> “This attack could delay our build, but more importantly it has shaken the very people this space was meant to uplift.
>
> “We urge anyone who saw or heard anything around Lichfield Sports Club on Eastern Avenue last night to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information may help us get justice.”

The charity had received Youth Investment Funding to help support the build of its first ever permanent home, having previously operated from rented rooms since it began in 2015.

But despite the setback, Liberty Jamboree say they are determined the construction will go ahead.

Ashley said:

> “We remain committed to completing the building and opening its doors to the community it was designed for.”
