Villagers across Lichfield and Burntwood are getting ready to showcase their areas as part of a Staffordshire-wide competition.

The Best Kept Village (BKV) contest will again see communities across the county battling it out for the accolade.

Last year’s event saw 57 entries and organisers are hoping to have another strong turnout when the entry deadline closes on March 28.

John Perry MBE, chairman of the BKV Working Group, said: “A great number of villages worked really hard last year to achieve very high standards.

“There was very close competition throughout the districts and I expect the same in 2013\. The winning villages in 2012 will determined to defend their titles and there will be others who will be determined to claim winning spots this year.”

The competition will again be based on five districts – Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands/Newcastle, East Staffordshire, Lichfield/Cannock and south Staffordshire. Villages will be judged twice, once in May and then again in June, and the best large and small villages in each area will proceed to the District Finals in July, with the victors then going forward to the County Finals ahead of final results in August.
