# Welcome to the new look Lichfield Live

THE new look Lichfield Live has been rolled out by the team at Lichfield Community Media CIC.

Since the site was founded, it has continued to grow year-on-year, with more than 5.4million visits last year alone and our 40,000th article published this month.

But with that growth has come increased demand on the ageing system behind it and the costs of keeping local communities informed.

As part of our efforts to create a sustainable model where news can continue to thrive, our team has opted to switch the site over to this new platform which gives us more ability to manage our content going forward – and crucially gives us the opportunity to help cover the costs of providing our daily dose of stories.

While our wide-ranging content will continue (and indeed grow in the coming months – more on that in the not-too-distant future), you'll also find some new features, such as our new [what's on and events calendar](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/events-calendar/) where you can keep across everything that's going on in our area.

Despite the ever-increasing costs of publishing online, we've always been committed to keeping access to news free in order to ensure local people are informed about the communities they live in and not just cherry-picked content that fits a particular narrative or slant. While that won't change, we are adding some extra options, such as offering access to [digital back copies](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/tag/newspaper/) of The Lichfield and Burntwood Independent newspaper for [supporters who subscribe for a small fee](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/support-us/#/portal). This helps cover the additional costs of hosting the large files and allow us to make them available.

Our fortnightly newsletter will continue to offer views and insights from the team at Lichfield Live as well as regular opinion columns from local figures including local MP Dave Robertson. You can subscribe [here](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/newsletters/).

Comments have always been a big part of Lichfield Live, but they do not come without their own challenges, particularly when it comes to moderation and the time it takes us to go through them all. One of the things we've had to do as part of the switchover to this new platform is to leave behind the comments posted on the previous one. But we will still be accepting comments (subject to [our comments policy](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/comments-policy/)) from registered members on the new website.

You'll also see some adverts across our new home – just as you did on our old one. But don't worry, we promise we won't use pop-ups that make reading our articles a chore. Instead, our advertising will be relevant and support the work we produce, allowing us to continue delivering your daily dose of local news, sport and what's on. And of course, if you're a local business wanting to get your messaging in front of our loyal audience of readers then details of how you can do that are [here](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/advertising/).

Of course, while we've tried to make everything work as it should, there may be some teething problems early on as our team carries out the huge task of transferring almost two decades of content into a new system.
