WHITTINGTON suffered defeat in their trip to Pelsall 2nds.

The visitors won the toss and sent the home side in to bat first.

Things looked good as they restricted the hosts to 95-5 – but a fine 74 from Sam Butcher helped Pelsall eventually reach 230-9 from their 50 overs.

Whittington got off to the worst possible start in reply though when Shazad Malik went in the first ball of the innings.

A steady stream of wickets saw the visitors reach 117-8 – but the tail then began to well and truly wag as Sam Butcher hit 39 and Martin Weston made 32 not out.

But Whittington eventually fell 42 runs short of the target as they were bowled out for 188.
