# Whittington Vets FC upset the odds to beat league leaders

Whittington Vets FC overcame league leaders Knowle in a thrilling encounter.

Carl James opened the scoring midway through the first half, having latched onto a Matt Taylor flick to calmly slot past the goalkeeper.

But Knowle equalised just before half time with a sublime finish.

Whittington extended their lead in the second half from the penalty spot with Leighton Thomas converting confidently for the second week running.

Moments later the lead was extended further after a free kick from Blair Ballinger was headed on by Phil Joyce into the path of James who struck a rasping shot into the net.

Knowle pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to go but Whittington hung on for victory.

Elsewhere, Whittington Vets A went down 3–1 against Sparkhill Seniors with Scott Evans grabbing the consolation goal.
