A collection of artwork by Burntwood artists has been unveiled at Chase Terrace Technology College.

Organised by Lichfield District Council’s Arts Development team, Burntwood Open Art Exhibition is a free exhibition featuring the *I was here, I woz ere* display of artwork by Burntwood artists.

Over 190 people came along to the opening night on July 24 to get a sneak preview of the wonderful collection – that will be on display until August 1.

During the launch, the amateur and professional artists from Burntwood found out if they had won an award for their work.

Councillor Ken Humphreys, Chairman of Burntwood Town Council and District Councillor, presented the awards to the talented winners.

In the main art exhibition, Matthew Scadrett was named the winner of the amateur category, Miranda Taylor-Lowen was chosen as the winner of the professional category, and Natalie Adams won the beginner category.

In the children’s exhibition, Mya-Lily Rickets, James Woodhouse, Victoria Squire and Celica Smithyman were all named winners in their key stage categories.

Meanwhile, visitors to the exhibition have been busy voting for their favourite piece of art in both the adult and child displays. The winners of the People’s Choice Award will be announced soon.

Celia Houghton, Arts Development Officer for Lichfield District Council, said:

“This is a stunning collection of work, showing just how much creative talent there is in Burntwood. I’d like to congratulate all the winners. Thanks must go to the esteemed judges, everyone for entering their work, and to the many volunteers who have helped to make this exhibition such a success.”

The free art workshops are proving popular, but there are still some places on the oil painting workshops (adults only) on July 29 from 10am to 1pm or 1.30pm to 4.30pm and the family song writing day on August 1\.

The workshops are free but need to be booked first, and all children under 11 must be supervised by an adult. To book your place call Celia Houghton on 07734 286386.

*I was here, I woz ‘ere* is running every day (from 10am to 4.30pm) until August 1 at Chase Terrace Technology College (yellow entrance), Bride Cross Road, Burntwood.
