The first vehicles will soon be able to travel over a new railway bridge in Lichfield.

The old crossing over the West Coast Main Line was removed at Christmas as part of the work to create the new Liberty Park business development.

The beams were lifted into place last weekend and concrete will now be poured on top on August 15, with the first vehicles set to cross it in the near future.

County councillor Mark Winnington said a significant milestone had been reached in the project.

“The bridge installation at Liberty Park Lichfield marks a major step forward in the development which is progressing on schedule,” he said. “It means our infrastructure works should be complete by the end of the year.

“Together with our partners we are demonstrating how we’re delivering major projects which boost economic growth and job creation locally.

“The Liberty Park Lichfield development is significant for the city and for Staffordshire.”

The work has also seen improvements to access routes on Burton Old Road.

Andrew Blevins, from Liberty Property Trust, said: ““Since Liberty Park was launched in March this year, it has already attracted interest from potential occupiers well placed to create jobs and economic growth for the region.”
