# Work to clear mortar shells from Burntwood building site expected to continue into tomorrow

The mortar shells found in Burntwood

The site off Milestone Way has been cordoned off since the discovery earlier today (May 25).

It had initially been expected to take until this afternoon to complete the site clearance, but the Army bomb disposal team is now expected to take longer than expected.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “No further excavations will take place, but a 100 metre cordon remains in place as a precaution for public safety.

“Any live shells will be detonated safely under controlled conditions. The A5190 will close when any devices are detonated on site, while other devices will be taken to a second side for safe detonations.

“People are reminded to avoid the area if at all possible and are thanked once again for their patience and cooperation.”
