A WOMAN who was told she may never walk again is set to run into Lichfield as part of an attempt to break a world record.

Esmee Gummer was paralysed from the waist down at the age of 18 after complications during a routine operation.

But she relearned how to walk and run, allowing her to go on and complete marathons and ultra-endurance challenges.

She is now aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive free 5k running events hosted by a single person.

Since setting off on 27th June, Esmee has been travelling on foot between 77 cities.

She said:

> "Every single 5k along this route has been about showing up for people, whatever hills or weather gets in the way.
>
> "Going for this record isn't really about me - it's proof that a community can turn up, every single time, for each other.
>
> "If we can do that 77 times in a row, imagine what we can do for good?"

Esmee's run in Lichfield will take place on Sunday 16th August at midday at Beacon Parkrun.

The challenge is also raising funds for organisations including Wings for Life, Sport in Mind and Parkrun.
