Chasetown Ladies suffered a cruel defeat as Reedswood grabbed the winner with just a couple of minutes remaining.

In a fairly even game, Chasetown had much the better of an opening first quarter, spurred on by an opening goal after just four minutes, when Jodie Kinsey drove home a free-kick from 35 yards which left the visiting keeper with no chance.

Reedswood gradually played themselves back into the game and gave Chasetown two scares, when the home side twice had to clear off the line to maintain their goal advantage.

Reedswood levelled six minutes into the second half, with a suspicion of offside, and then had the perfect opportunity to take the lead when Nicci Barter was adjudged to have conceded a foul. Becky Troth guessed the right way for the penalty kick, but was not required to make the save as the ball was blazed well wide of the target.

As the game wore on, Reedswood were creating the better opportunities, but Chasetown were holding firm and, some solid goalkeeping from Becky Troth kept the score level.

On 80 minutes, Troth pushed a decent free-kick wide of the post. Five minutes from the time, she made a phenomenal double save to keep the scores level. With Reedswood’s number 20 clean through on goal and expected to score, Troth made a great save diving to her left and then made an equally good save at her near post to thwart the visitors again.

Chasetown substitute Kate Rose went on a surging run forward before being crowded out, as the Scholars looked to get the winner themselves, while a right-wing cross eluded everyone and ran to safety.

Chasetown almost sneaked a winner in the 87th minute, when a Bethan Garland-Ridding cross from the right was dangerously close to the top corner of the goal, with the Reedswood keeper needing to watch carefully to keep the ball out.

In the final minute, Reedswood struck the killer blow. After another good save from Becky Troth, from a free-kick, the resultant corner saw the visitors take the three points with a headed goal inside the six-yard box.

Both sides were reduced to ten players in stoppage time when Stacey Roberts saw red, after the referee deemed she retaliated to a hand raised in her direction.

Chasetown: Troth, Barter, M Rose, Thompson, Taylor, Garland-Ridding, Kinsey, Wright (Farmer), Turner (Roberts), Edwards, Allen (K Rose).
