People flocking to Lichfield to see the Olympic torch are being asked to share their experience.

Lichfield District Council will be using Twitter tomorrow (June 30) to keep locals updated with the flame’s progress through the area, as well as sharing photos from along the route.

And now they want local residents to join their efforts.

Councillor Val Richards said: “As the Olympic Torch Relay travels through our city and district, lots of people will be using social media to find out where it is and to share their experience of it after it has passed them.

“We’ll be tweeting on the progress of the Olympic Torch on our Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/lichfield_dc. We would also like lots of people to join us and share their pictures and thoughts about the day, by tweeting using the hashtag #OlympicTorch.”

The Olympic Flame will be visiting the National Memorial Arboretum at around 8.30am, and then travelling through Streethay at approximately 9.14am. It is expected to arrive in Lichfield City at 9.20am. It will then be driven to Hopwas, where Torchbearers will pick up the Flame at approximately 10.08am.

Thousands of people are expected to come to Lichfield City on the day, so the council is keen to once again remind visitors that the roads along the route will be closed to traffic from around 8.30am until the Relay has passed.

To see the route, find out more information about road closures, and the times the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through local streets, please visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/2012. The website also has a full programme of the events and activities taking place across the district to celebrate this historic day.

Wow! It was a REAL privilege to be a Marshal on Saturday. I was at the handover point when Beth Archer took the torch! A lovely atmosphere. MANY THANKS need to go to the Lichfield District Council Team, headed by Neil Turner – Once in a lifetime experience!

I was a marshall on Saturday in Market Square and it was an incredible experience. The atmosphere and the magnificent turn-out of spectators was something I certainly have never witnessed before. The people of Lichfield and area are to be congratulated not just for the level of support they gave but also for their good humour and conduct. Thanks to the local organisers for putting it all together so well and also for giving some of us the opportunity to have an active role in a little bit of local/national history. The bacon baguette in the rain at 06.30am was well worth it!!!

Me too! Stationed at the Shell Garage and I even got to close a road! What a fantastic day in Lichfield and so well organised by LDC. Fantastic atmosphere in the City, the weather was very kind to us and everyone was in a real sunny mood.

I was fairly cynical about the whole torch relay business, the cost etc… but to see so many people out and about celebrating and the smiles on the Torch-bearers faces has changed my opinion.

I was in Cathedral Close, right next to the road and it was superb, the atmosphere was brilliant.
