Plans have been drawn up to create a new permanent residential site for gypsy caravans in Stonnall.

Land near Oak Tree Farm on Gravelly Lane has been earmarked for the development.

The proposals for the residential site will see six caravans on the site and the creation of a day room.

However, objections have already been lodged by local residents over noise and an increase in traffic.

One said: “I am really proud to live in such a pretty and desirable village surrounded by beautiful greenery. I believe the fencing for this site has been erected and it is already an eyesore on the landscape.

“We also already have a traffic problem as people use Stonnall as a cut through, particularly at rush hour. This site would further increase the traffic through Gravelly Lane and pose an increased risk to anyone using the lanes for walking.

“This is right next to a lovely children’s farm. It is a place Stonnall residents feel proud of and this site would potentially impact upon this lovely area.

“While I do appreciate there is a shortage of housing, I have to believe that there are places that could be used that are not green belt and would not be such an eyesore and nuisance for residents.”
