Staff at Lichfield’s Thomas Cook store area among the casualties after the travel firm collapsed overnight.
The package holiday company went bust after failing to secure an additional £200million of funding as part of a rescue deal.
The store on Bore Street is one of around 600 which will cease trading as part of the closure.
A statement on the company’s website said: “Thomas Cook UK Plc and associated UK entities have entered Compulsory Liquidation and are now under the control of the Official Receiver.
“The UK business has ceased trading with immediate effect and all future flights and holidays are cancelled.”
