LICHFIELD Cathedral has provided the backdrop for a Christmas illumination spectacular.
The festive sound and light display began this week and will run until 22nd December.
Beginning at the Dam Street entrance to the Cathedral Close, visitors will see the illuminations projected on to the cathedral itself along with the Bishop’s Palace.
This year’s event is based around the 12 Days of Christmas and sees displays take place from 5.30pm.
Dean of Lichfield, The Right Revd Jan McFarlane, said:
“We love welcoming everyone to the cathedral and the Christmas light show is one one of the highlights of the year.”
Tickets start at £10. For booking details visit www.lichfield-cathedral.org/lightshow.

Sadly it will be our last year going, at £30 for 2 adults and a 4 year old it’s simply not good value for money…2 light shows each several minutes long and a walk around the cathedral looking at Xmas tree’s. Prices need to come down I’m afraid, it was a lot quieter than last year.
I agree not worth it. £35 for 2 adults and a 10 year old for about 10 minutes of projection shows and the rest walking in a queue looking at Christmas trees. The 7pm showing on 18/12 was a let down. The first projection didn’t come on, after standing in the pouring rain for 10 minutes – technical fault. The second show on the cathedral I didn’t think was very good – It was more of just a projection on the building than an actual projection mapping. Very little creativity went into the majority of that and I suspect these use the same animation on multiple buildings. And then it’s walking around some Christmas trees – with very little creativity going into those either. As soon as we got in the chorists had finished and didn’t start again. The stewards all appear to be volunteers. Outside just a little hot chocolate/hot drinks cubby-hole. No food vendors or anything interesting. Where exactly are these funds going – other than paying for the event organisers and the diocese pockets.
It is a beautiful show but I agree with others that it is not cheap. The cathedral is a wonderful feature of the city though, and we should look after it. For centuries many a church roof has been repaired with money raised from local people.
As a Family we wished to enjoy the Cathedral at this time of year. It would have cost us £110. Needless to say far too pricey. So
We enjoyed homemade Flask of Hot Choccy and Mince Pies sitting by Stowe Pool for a while and admired Our Lady from a Distance. Quietly singing Carols.
