THE youngest member of Lichfield District Council has joined the shadow cabinet.
Cllr Andrew Rushton will track climate change and ecology initiaitives.
The Liberal Democrat member for Whittington and Streethay will join Labour members on the shadow cabinet.
Cllr Sue Woodward, leader of the Labour opposition group, said:
“Cllr Andrew Rushton has shown himself to be a very capable councillor and I am delighted that he has accepted this role.
“The Labour group has worked constructively with Lib Dem colleagues in order to bring forward better outcomes for our residents and this appointment underscores our partnership working.
“Across the council, we may not agree with everything each group proposes – and it is only right and proper that we respect each other’s different perspectives – but we do agree on the need to address climate change with some urgency, locally as well as globally.
“That’s why the two political groups successfully pushed for climate change initiatives to be included in the council’s budget.”
Cllr Rushton said:
“I am delighted to be joining the shadow cabinet in the role of tracking climate change and ecology.
“Despite our political differences it’s great to have opposition groups working cooperatively to deliver the best for the residents of Lichfield district.
“Climate change is a top priority for many residents, particularly the younger generations, and I look forward to bringing forward initiatives that help the district council lower our carbon footprint and make our district greener.”
Congratulations Andrew. Important position and lots to do!
