TWO local open spaces have been handed a prestigious international quality mark.
Burntwood Park and Beacon Park have both received the Green Flag Award.
They are among 2,250 sites across the UK to achieve the honour.
Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:
“Congratulations to everyone involved in Beacon Park and Burntwood Park who have worked tirelessly to ensure that they have achieved the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.
“Quality parks and green spaces like these make the country a healthier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, Beacon Park and Burntwood Park are vital green spaces for communities to enjoy nature – and during the ongoing cost of living crisis they are a free and safe space for families to socialise.
“They also provide important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
Beacon Park has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management and promotion of its historic features.
Cllr Phil Whitehouse, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for operational services, parks and waste, said:
“I am absolutely delighted that Beacon Park has retained the prestigious Green Flag Award and achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, and that Burntwood Park has been awarded the Green Flag Award for the first time.
“Maintaining our parks as attractive, safe places for our residents to visit and enjoy is a council priority and the awards recognise the tireless work of our fantastic parks team.”
