BOSSES of a new Burntwood supermarket have confirmed it will open later this month.

The Lidl store will welcome its first customers on 22nd January.

The ribbon will be cut by pupils from Chase Terrace Primary School at 8am.

The opening event will also feature food samples and special prizes on offer.

Joe Caunt, regional head of property for Lidl GB, said:

“We’re delighted to open the doors to our new store in Burntwood.

“Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping to make this store a reality. It’s always an exciting moment when we’re finally able to see our plans come to life and make a difference to local communities.”

The new store will be open from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

The outlet will feature an in-store bakery as well as facilities such as baby-changing stations and free parking.

Great, another supermarket in Chase Terrace. Can’t wait, yawn.

Nothing against Lidl at all but it would be nice to have a Sainsburys, M&S Food or Waitrose just to mix it up a bit. Morrisons is probably the most depressing shopping experience you will ever have. So, you are forced to travel to Cannock or Lichfield for something more appealing.

Actually, Morrisons in Burntwood is a good local supermarket. What it didn’t need is another parasite opening next door. Lidl and Aldi tend to choose locations close to real supermarkets to piggyback on the flow of shoppers to those establishments.
Meanwhile, the Lidl site would have been excellent for a cinema complex with plenty of parking and McDonalds and Costa (and Morrisons) nearby, but nobody’s opening new cinemas these days (wonder why).

I do like CarlMs optimism that Burntwood could ever attract a higher tier retail experience, however I suspect the ratio of security staff per store to stop the locals helping themselves would make such a venture a fantasy.

“IMPRESSED”
Huge uncomplicated Car Parking.
Wide Shopping Aisles, I am disabled.
Competitive pricing with Aldi and Morrison’s. ( who both in comparison look very tired now)
First shop saved on Purchases… Love the Bakery…
Has certainly enlightened the Shopping Experience in Burntwood for us.
What next?
Bring on Cinema Lichfield LOL …. as if
