Ridgeway Primary Academy embarked on the project to develop the facility as part of an effort to encourage pupils to read more.

Assistant headteacher Helen Woodward said:

“Our library is a traditional one, in that children are free to read any book they choose and are not directed in their selections. They are able to choose books on a wide range of topics, which broadens their learning beyond the national curriculum.

“Children will soon be able to loan books from our library too. We also have an amazing book vending machine where children are issued with tokens to award them for reading at home.

“We hope this development will have a significant effect on our children’s love for reading.”
