Villagers near Lichfield are being reassured that disruption will be kept to a minimum when utility companies carry out essential work.
Water and electric contractors have confirmed that they will be carrying out their respective work at the same time in Barton-under-Needwood.
South Staffordshire Water will be replacing worn out mains which have been prone to bursts, while Matrix Networks will continue installing the Football Association Centre’s new electricity supply.
Local county councillor Tim Corbett said:
“This is a very complex and major project and the network management team has worked closely with South Staffordshire Water and Matrix Networks to minimise disruption. The two companies need to carry out this essential work and the county council has done everything in its power to ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible.
“However, I would urge motorists to avoid Main Street and Station Road, where most of the work will take place, if they can.”
South Staffordshire Water will start the upgrade of Main Street and Barton Gate from the Wales Lane junction to Forest Road on Monday (June 27). The work is expected to take around eight weeks to complete and will take place Monday to Saturday, with temporary traffic lights being used.
Meanwhile, the Matrix Networks team will be working on Station Road, Main Street and Barton Gate in a project that will see work take place seven days a week until the end of the school summer holidays.
