A CRACKDOWN on drink driving saw more than 150 arrests in a month across Staffordshire.

Officers targeted those getting behind the wheel while unfit to do so during the operation in December last year.

Staffordshire Police also carried out 1,998 tests in 2025. Of those, 7.5% either blew over the limit, refused to provide or failed to do the test properly.

Chief Inspector Scott McGrath said:

“These results paint a very clear picture of our work on a national scale in targeting drink drivers relentlessly in Staffordshire.

“For us, one serious or fatal collision is one too many. That’s why we’ve been robust in our efforts to target those putting themselves and others at risk on our road networks, and why we continue to do so with such focus in 2026.

“We strongly believe that we’ve been able to stop serious collisions from happening by intervening at the earliest opportunity, and that’s what we continue to aim for in Staffordshire.

“Our message to drink drivers is simple. We’re completing more roadside tests than ever before, which means the chances of you being caught and brought before the courts is also higher than it has ever been.

“We are more determined than ever to take robust action against those who pose a risk of harm on our road networks.”
