New Lib Dem councillor Paul Ray has been warned the hard work starts now as he looks to make an impact on Lichfield District Council.
The party held onto their seat – along with one on Lichfield City Council – at a by-election in the Chadsmead ward following the resignation of Marion Bland.
The result means the Lib Dems retain their sole seat on Lichfield District Council.
Cllr Sue Woodward, leader of the Labour opposition group, welcomed the new Lib Dem representative but insisted he would need to make his voice heard.
“Congratulations to Paul Ray and commiserations to Colin Ball, our excellent Labour candidate, in second place,” she said.
“Let’s see what the Lib Dem councillor does now where it matters – in the council chamber as well as in his ward.”
