The astrologer and Strictly Come Dancing star will be in the city tomorrow (July 8).

Russell will MC the evening where West End soloists and musicians from the Chethams School of Music will perform The Sound of His Music – A Celebration of Richard Rodgers at Lichfield Cathedral.

It might not have been written in the stars, but the astrologer’s love of Rodgers’ work began at an early age.

“I was introduced to the music through my parents who worked in the movies,” he said. “This led me to a love of musical theatre, and especially the compositions of Richard Rodgers that earned him so many awards.

“He even had a theatre named after him on Broadway.

“My favourite works are definitely Carousel and South Pacific. You’ll Never Walk Alone in Carousel really stands out from all of the many musicals.”

Russell will be one of many stars on show as the Lichfield Festival gets into full swing, with his stint on Strictly Come Dancing propelling him back into the public eye.

But despite ditching the lycra and sequins, the 66-year-old performer hasn’t left his old dance pals behind completely.

“I’m really looking forward to working on Len Goodman’s panel show Partners in Rhyme later this month.”
