Lichfield MP has claimed “all political parties” have been shaped by Margaret Thatcher.
The former Conservative Primer Minister died this morning (April 8) after suffering a stroke.
Despite Thatcher’s controversial legacy, Michael Fabricant MP said that those who revile her have “short memories”.
After the news of her death broke, he told Twitter followers: “The present face of all political parties has been shaped by the vision and courage of Margaret Thatcher.
“She transformed the face of Britain and restored its greatness when previously it had been driven by industrial unrest and an unsustainable economy.
“Margaret Thatcher transformed the face of Britain and of all political parties.
“We are all Thatcher’s children.”
Mr Fabricant also insisted that many of Thatcher’s forecasts had been proven to be correct.
He added: “The bitter and twisted blame Thatcher for closing the mines and old loss-making industries, but they were closing all over Europe and North America.
“She was highly controversial and the economic medicine was painful, but Margaret Thatcher transformed our nation for the better and all political parties now accept her basic economic truths.”

““We are all Thatcher’s children.””
No Thanks, not for me!.
I am one of Thatcher’s Children.
I was a teenager during the 1980s and as a result of watching the impact of her Government’s policies on the community I grew up in, I have a deep mistrust of politicians that still burns just as brightly today. Nothing that has happened in the last 30 years has altered this view that our political system is elitist and offers little in the way of hope, inspiration and empathy for the vast majority of people. Her passing merely reinforces the belief that thanks to the Coalition we are now seeing disturbing echoes of the blinkered, selfish, arrogant and ignorant attitudes that were so prevelant during the 1980s.

I hope you include yourself in that Michael. Mrs Thatcher was a pioneer in many areas, a hugely successful woman, a mother of twins an ideological thinker. She decried feminism as a “poison” and vilified social proponents.
The success of Britain at the time came at a great cost. In public services, welfare, industry and public sector jobs.
Yes she shaped Britain, it will remain a contentious issue as to whether that shaping was for the many or the few.
Whether or not I agreed with Margaret Thatchers policies or not is irrelevant. What does matter is that she stood by what she said and was strong enough to speak openly quite often against all criticism. People who have that degree of integrity should be respected. Other people in her category, but with massively different politics were her adversary Arthur Scagill, Anthony Wedgewood Ben, Enoch Powell and Edward Heath. Like them or loath them they had the guts to stand by their conviction, and were not easily swayed by weight of opinion. If more people were like that and not two faced the World would be a better place. R.I.P. Baroness Thatcher.
Well said David. If only modern politicians had that degree of integrity. – it is irrelevant whether you agree with their policies, you must respect people prepared to stand up for them regardless of how popular it seemed. None of us can claim not to be a “child of Thatcher” no matter how much we would wish it otherwise. It doesn’t mean you have to support her policies, just accept that you would be in a different place without her.
