Drayton Manor Park has confirmed it will remain closed for a day as a mark of respect following the death of an 11-year-old girl.
The child, who has not been named, fell into the water on the theme park’s Splash Canyon rapids ride this afternoon (May 9).
She was flown by air ambulance to Birmingham Children’s Hospital but later died.
A statement from Drayton Manor Park said: “Following today’s tragic events, Drayton Manor Theme Park will be closed on May 10 as a mark of respect to the family.”
The girl was believed to be on a school trip from Leicestershire when the incident happened.
A statement from the Bryan family, who own Drayton Manor Park, said: “We are all truly shocked and devastated and our thoughts are with her friends and family at this tremendously difficult time.”
The cynic in me says it’s easier for the HSE to investigate whilst the party is empty and patrons walking past cordon tape isn’t a great image for the park.
