PLANS have been submitted for a new housing development in Burntwood.

Bloor Homes has submitted an application for 250 properties off Church Road.

The developer said consultation and technical examination had seen the original plans scaled back, with the site east of Coulter Lane no longer being proposed for development.

A proposed community hub has also been removed following feedback.

Bloor Homes said 43% of the properties would be classified as affordable properties in a mix of social rent and shared ownership.

Emma Foster, senior planning manager at Bloor Homes Midlands, said:

“We are pleased to have submitted our outline planning application for a sensitive, landscape-led development in Burntwood.

“We are conscious of the significant local interest in our proposals and have sought to respond positively and proactively to feedback received through our community consultation wherever we can.

“We have significantly reduced the overall scale of development and removed development completely from the site parcel east of Coulter Lane.

“Our plans will provide extensive attractively landscaped public open spaces offering a range of outdoor recreational opportunities for the whole community.

“The outline planning application is the first formal stage in the planning process and we remain committed to ongoing engagement with local representatives to provide much-needed high-quality homes at this sustainable infill location while delivering community benefits wherever possible.”

More details on the proposals can be found at www.bloorhomesburntwood.com.

This angers me so much! Bloor homes say they have listened to the community but they clearly haven’t because we all said NO! Of course they’ll push to build regardless but they treat us like idiots. Dressing it up as though they’ve listened is insulting. Not building on the east side of Coulter lane is an easy choice in terms of ‘scale back’ because it will be an easy pass for Bloor to infill the fields at a later date (they won’t leave a blade of grass untouched!). Not building the community hub is a non issue as it just saves them money. The timing is deliberate too . Over the busy Christmas period with holidays – really unfair! The objection is clear. This is beautiful Greenbelt, not grey belt as they’d have us believe. This is the heritage area of Burntwood. This is an environmental green corridor through to Gentleshaw SSSI. This is an area that doesn’t have the infrastructure. This will be an unsustainable development. Burntwood -please pull together and send your objections!

I hardly think reducing 300 house to 250 is a significant reduction!

The development will be like the awful development being built down Watery Lane in Lichfield . It’s awful with some lovely looking houses built literaly on top of one another . No privacy, just ‘whack em’ up as close as possible . Then there’s all the other devepments around Lichfield , so sad they’re being built in such a way !

No wonder Bloor Homes are so keen to build on this site: this is the historic heart of Burntwood and homes here will attract a premium for the developer. It may not be a cathedral or grand urban landscape, but this is the local heritage enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

There are far better places to build in Burntwood, including sites that could rightly be considered grey belt or brownfield sites. When new houses were built on land directly opposite my own home, I didn’t have a problem with it – they were in keeping with the existing residential area. But this site will change the character of Burntwood for everyone who lives here. The application needs to be rejected.

Intriguing argument Clare makes, as Burntwood has no historic heart. It was cruelly stripped away leaving a wizened husk of a town. Staffordshire and its neighbouring counties have countless replicas where any investment or growth would be welcomed with open arms. Time to get in the 21st century.

With all of these planning applications for the faceless boxes estates, the developers always without fail reel off two regular phrases from the Unwanted Developments Book Of Quotes…..affordable housing and green corridors…..yet whenever these developments are announced the developers artists impressions only ever shows four and five bedroom ‘executive’ boxes with fake beams and what appears to be a good fifty meters between properties but we all know it will never end up looking like this. However they intend it to look they, (Bloor Destroyers Of Countryside Ltd), should take note…..WE DONT WANT IT HERE!

No new roads no new houses. And possibly new councillors at all levels who will do residents bidding.

What a lovely picture. Just like a countryside idle. It’s about as believable as Father Christmas…or a Council promise.
