THE Armed Forces Day flag is flying high in Burntwood to mark the national event.
Members of Burntwood Town Council took part in a short civic ceremony this morning (27th June) at Burntwood Library.
Cllr Michael Galvin said:
"As the deputy chair for Burntwood Town Council, I’m honoured to be raising the flag for Armed Forces Day.
"I grew up listening to my grandparents and other relatives talk about their experiences of the Second World War.
"I dedicate this flag to all of the brave men and women who have served our country in the armed services.
"I would particularly like to do this to honour my Dad’s cousin, William Galvin RN, who made the ultimate sacrifice where he lost his life during the D-Day landings in 1944."
