Figures have revealed that more than £475,000 from a hardship fund has been spent helping reduce council tax bills in Lichfield and Burntwood during the coronavirus crisis.
Staff involved in signing a contract to sell land before necessary consultation was carried out no longer work for Lichfield District Council, the local authority’s chief executive has said.
A Lichfield councillor said the benefits of allowing land to be sold off for housing “outweigh the negatives” caused by the loss of the public open space.
Councillors have been told they were left in an “impossible position” after a contract was agreed to sell two pieces of land for housing before any consultation had taken place.
The cabinet at Lichfield District Council is set to confirm plans to bring in a commercial property advisor to help deliver the new city centre masterplan.
