A man found dead in his Chasetown home had been shot in the chest.
Police confirmed the violent nature of the 27-year-old’s death at a house in Meadway Street and have now launched a murder investigation.
The man has not yet been formally identified, but has been named locally as Richard Deakin.
The body was discovered after police were called to the scene following reports of suspicious activity yesterday morning (July 5) at around 8.30am.
Local residents have told The Lichfield Blog that two men had been seen leaping the garden fence after pulling up in a black car.
Chief Inspector Selwyn Burton, from Trent Valley Division, said:
“This type of shocking incident is very rare in Staffordshire and is being thoroughly investigated by the force’s Major Investigation Department. Specially-trained officers are offering support to the victim’s family.

The scene remained cordoned off this afternoon while investigations continued.
