Michael Fabricant MP with Ian Hislop on Have I Got News For You

Michael Fabricant hopes his appearance on Have I Got News For You will raise the profile of Lichfield.

The Conservative MP joined regular panelists Paul Merton and Ian Hislop for the BBC show, which was aired on Friday followed by an extended version last night (May 13).

He had earlier revealed on Twitter that he was disappointed so many references to his constituency had been edited out of the shorter broadcast.

“I am glad that the 45 minute version of Have I Got News for You included my plugs for Lichfield and ‘LichVegas – the hot destination to visit’ which were omitted from the shorter version shown on Friday night,” he said.

“I’ve had very positive comments from Parliamentary colleagues and the public saying that it shows that some MPs can be very approachable.

“Others have said that the plug for Lichfield will help the tourist trade. I hope so.”

Meanwhile, the MP will back in the media spotlight this weekend.

He explained: “This Friday I shall be appearing on a much more serious programme – BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions.

“It will be quite a logistical nightmare as it is being broadcast live from Fowey in western Cornwall and I need to be back in Lichfield soon after.”

Any Questions will be broadcast at 8pm on Friday (May 17), followed by a repeat on Saturday at 1.10pm.

This man is beyond parody.

Yes, the people of Lichfield are that gullible to believe you’re working for them by an appearance on a comical news quiz, rather than any singular policy issue you can be tied down to.

Unless you count flip-flopping over HS2 and taking the populist stance.

If he offers to be put in stocks on a market day to have tomatoes thrown at him for shaming Lichfield by having him as an MP, I’m all for the tourism boost.

Is it a wig or isn’t it? Everybody has wondered at some point. It has to be a wig- for a 60 year old man to still have brassy blonde hair without a single grey hair is most unusual. Why anyone would wear such a bad wig is a mystery though.
