ALREWAS fell to a seven-wicket loss as they went down at home to Denby.

After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the Herons found runs hard to come by as they slipped to 18-2 inside five overs.

Gareth Wooley's 32 and Tevyn Walcott's 47 offered some resistance, while Will Smedley struck 21 as the hosts were eventually skittled out for 167 in 38.2 overs.

Peter Burgoyne did much of the damage with the ball as he finished with figures of 5-28.

Denby's response was efficient as they never looked like struggling to reach the target with openers Brayden Laffan and Mitchell Bradley hitting half-centuries, although Smedley did manage to claim both of their wickets to leave the visitors on 131-2.

But Burgoyne capped a fine afternoon as his unbeaten 20 helped his side past the Alrewas total for the loss of just three wickets in less than 29 overs.
