Think about family dynamics where some members are favoured more than others – it would be so difficult to write a will so as not to favour one sibling over another, for example.
Imagine two actors being offered roles to play a pub landlord and landlady. Great, so far so good. Then comes the bombshell –they also have to interact with imaginary customers and play their parts as well.
Sometimes plays can be stuffy, even if they are performed well by the actors. That’s just how they were written. But The Opposite Sex, written by Dudley playwright David Tristram, was anything but stuffy.
I was unfamiliar with this particular play by Constance Cox, based on an Oscar Wilde story, so the story brought to the stage by the Lichfield Players was all a revelation to me.
