The best of local brewing will be coming together for the Lichfield Food Festival.
Taking place across August 31 and September 1 the event will feature flavours from across the globe.
But the liquid refreshment on offer will be from much closer to home.
Lichfield Arts will be celebrating the 1,000 small brewers in the UK by showcasing four of Lichfield District’s finest breweries, a craft lager maker and the only cider producer in Staffordshire.
The Guildhall will be open from noon to 8pm on the Saturday and from noon to 6pm on the Sunday.
Among the brewers on offer will be:
- Backyard Brewery – The Brownhills business was set up by Austen Morgan and Michael Bates just five years ago and they produce a wide range of beers including the award winning Staffordshire Hoard.
- Beowulf – Chasewater’s Phil Bennett started brewing in Birmingham in 1996 before moving to Chasewater in 2004. His beers are named after medieval battles, bravery and gallantry. Among his award-winning dark beers is Dark Raven Mild.
- Blythe – Hamstall Ridware’s Rob Greenway set up this small brewery in 2003 following redundancy and has since won many awards. Particular favourites are Palmers Poison, Staffie and Ridware Pale.
- Quartz – Husband and wife Scott and Julie Barnett set up their brewery in 2005 and produce favourites such as Blonde and Crystal.
- Freedom – The Abbots Bromley brewery began producing hand-crafted lagers in 2005, all conforming to the German Purity Laws. They have rapidly established themselves as an alternative producer with the likes of Organic Lager and Pilsner/
- Woodys Cider Branston – Semi-retired Frank Wood made his own press in 2008 and began to produce Staffordshire’s only cider.You will have the chance to Meet the Brewers and Cider Maker on Saturday 31st August at the Guildhall
A spokesperson added: “If your taste is not beer then you can enjoy a glass of wine, range of soft drinks or a nice cup of tea with a homemade Jummy Cake, freshly made rolls or even a locally produced Pork Pie.
