New figures have revealed that the inaugral Staffordshire Ironman race pumped more than £1million into the local economy.
The race saw 2,500 competitors -including world champion Javier Gomez – swim in Chasewater before cycling through parts of Lichfield en route to a run at Shugborough.
New research shows that more than £1million was spent by competitors and supporters – and with 2016 race places selling out in a day, local businesses will be hoping for another boost.

Over £1million was spent locally by contestants and spectators of this year’s Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire event with most saying they would recommend the county as a place to visit.
Staffordshire County Council’s economy leader Mark Winnington said: “The Ironman event was a resounding success and has had a positive impact on Staffordshire – not just economically but also enhancing its reputation as a place to visit and in encouraging healthy lifestyles.
“This was a first for Staffordshire and we’re pleased to be able to host the event over the next few years. It brings in visitors from across the country and from abroad which is great to see and is certainly a boost to local businesses.
“Ironman is also inspiring people locally, whether they compete in the event or are just encouraged to take part in one of the events which makes up the event.”
