Dean Gilbert has revealed his frustration as the big freeze continues to cause fixture chaos for Lichfield City FC.
City haven’t kicked a ball in anger since their 7-3 victory over Chelmsley Town in mid-December. Cup ties against Kenilworth Town and Newcastle Town, along with a league fixture with Continental Star Reserves, have all been postponed due to frozen pitches.
The Lichfield manager explained:
“It is frustrating as we were playing with confidence and we had got into the habit of winning games. Now we are in danger, if this weather continues, of the possibility of a fixture backlog or an extension of the season.
“The players haven’t played for three weeks, which is a long time at this stage of the season.”
Saturday’s game against Knowle Reserves is already in doubt the weekend’s forecast predicting that the sub-zero conditions will continue throughout the week.
Gilbert added:
“The squad are fit and raring to get back playing. We’re hoping against hope that Saturday’s game goes ahead.”
