A Longdon racing driver suffered a bittersweet weekend at Brands Hatch.
Greg Owens secured a season-best finish in the 4Two Cup, but missed out on a maiden win when problems with his car snatched any chance of victory away.
The 38-year-old IT consultant said: “The weekend was overwhelmingly positive. Of course, I’m frustrated to have missed out on a first win, but I achieved my best qualifying and race result.
“My starts have been perfect and leading a race at a track like Brands Hatch felt very special. I’m sincerely grateful to my team mate James Palmer for loaning me a spare car after my usual one developed a problem in testing.”
Owens bagged second place in qualifying on his first visit to the Kent track and edged into the lead early on during race one.
Race two saw another strong start as he edged in front before the electronic problems appeared again.
But a red flag gave Owens a second chance to get back into contention and he did just that and looked to be heading for victory when the car’s on-board computer suffered issues once more, leaving him to coast home in a disappointing fourth place.
Owens will be hoping to take his race pace – if not his mechanical luck – into the 4Two Cup’s next round at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on September 26.
