COUNCIL chiefs have hailed improved safety for walkers and cyclists after upgrades were completed on a stretch of road in Lichfield.
The changes along Eastern Avenue include better access, with a new shared-use cycleway and footway near The Friary School.
The existing puffin crossing has been upgraded to a toucan crossing as part of the works, while the footpath linking Eastern Avenue and Grange Lane has also been improved.
Cllr Daniel Cecil, Cabinet Support Member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:
"These improvements are a great example of how we are making it easier and safer for people to choose walking and cycling for everyday journeys.
"By creating better links around The Friary School, we are helping pupils, families and residents travel more actively and confidently.
"Schemes like this not only improve safety and accessibility but also support healthier lifestyles and reduce reliance on car travel.
"I’m pleased to see this project completed and delivering benefits for the local community."
The £400,000 project was funded by HS2 as part of a wider investment to encourage active travel and improve connectivity in communities along the route of the railway.
