The arrests followed reports that offenders had entered a scrap metal yard off Barracks Lane, near Muckley Corner, shortly before 12.30am on Wednesday morning (October 5).
Police officers and helicopters from Staffordshire and the West Midlands were called out and the four men were arrested in the area.
The men – aged 25, 33, 34 and 42 – have been taken to custody at Burton police station where they will be questioned today. Inquiries, including examination of the site by police SOCO officers, are continuing.
Inspector Jed White, Lichfield Local Policing Team Commander, said: “Metal thefts at scrapyards and elsewhere are a serious issue that we’re combating through our ongoing Operation Amalgam, working closely with the business community.
