After a playing career with Hednesford Town, Tamworth, Leamington and Stratford during the 1960s and 70s, Larry took on the top job with The Scholars in 1972.

He won Division One of the West Midland (Regional) League in 1978 after being runners-up on four previous occasions during his tenure.

Chasetown’s Mike Joiner said the club had “lost a true friend”.

“We are all in shock hearing of Larry’s sudden and unexpected death on Sunday,” he said.

Larry moved to Devon in 1979 where he continued his managerial career with both Ilfracombe and Torrington. However, he has remained close to The Scholars, regularly making the 400 mile round trip to Staffordshire.

He leaves wife Jenny, daughter Nikki and grandson Jack.
