FAMILIES are getting on their marks for a day of activities when the Lichfield Community Games returns.
The event takes place in Beacon Park on Saturday (13th June).
Running from midday to 4pm, the annual event brings together local clubs, organisations and activity providers for an afternoon packed with opportunities to discover new hobbies, sports and ways to stay active.
Visitors can have a go at everything from cycling, BMX and scooter ramps, football, cricket, badminton and table tennis to martial arts, kickboxing, tug of war, yoga, dance and walking groups.
There will also be opportunities to enjoy soft archery, soft axe throwing, mini rugby, fitness activities, Morris dancing and music sessions.
Councillor Andy Smith, deputy leader of Lichfield District Council and cabinet member for leisure and major projects, said:
"The Community Games is one of the highlights of our events calendar and a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to get active, have fun and discover something new.
"Whether you're looking for a new sport, wanting to spend quality time with family or simply keen to try an activity you've never done before, there really is something for everyone.
"We know being active is important for both physical and mental wellbeing, and this event is all about helping people find enjoyable ways to move more and connect with others in their community."
Organisations taking part include Active Lichfield Communities, Moo Music, Rhythm Time, MF Dance, Vision Dance, Lichfield Running Club, St Giles Hospice, Everyone Health, Staffordshire County Council's Fostering Team, Fun Club Hub, Tai Chi providers, women's cricket groups, massage therapists and a variety of local sports clubs and community organisations.
Community Games founder Dennis Kennedy said:
"We are looking forward to welcoming people back to Beacon Park for what promises to be another fantastic Community Games.
"Every year we see people trying activities they may never have considered before, and many go on to join local clubs or continue taking part afterwards. That's what makes the event so special.
"The atmosphere is always brilliant, and we hope as many people as possible will come along and get involved."
Admission is £5 per child when booked online in advance, or on the day it will be £5 when paying with cash or £6 when paying by card. Entry is free for children aged two and under.
