A DISAPPOINTING start to the season continued for Alrewas as they suffered a 173-run defeat at Ockbrook and Borrowash.
The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first, reaching 140-3 when Ximus Du Plooy came to the crease and produced a match-winning performance as he fired an unbeaten 167 off just 68 balls to help his side to 362-5.
Craig Swinfield was the pick of the Alrewas bowlers, finishing with figures of 2-74.
The Herons battled bravely in response with Ben Foley making 51 and Gareth Woolley scoring 49.
But Du Plooy’s runs proved too big an ask as the visitors ended their innings on 189-9.
