Police are appealing for information after a burglary left a nature centre near Lichfield flooded.
Offenders broke into the Combined Handicapped and Disabled Society (CHADS) headquarters at Four Seasons Nature Centre in Kings Bromley Lane, Handsacre, between 8.30pm on August 26 and 9.50am the following day.
They stole the building’s copper water tank and stripped copper piping from its central heating system and feeder tanks. The crime left the centre flooded, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
PC Alison Lewis said:
“The nature centre is available for use by all people. It is run by CHADS, which is a charity, and has to raise all its own funding. This burglary has come as a major setback for CHADS.The centre is situated off the A513, which is a fairly busy route. We are appealing for anyone who saw people or vehicles acting suspiciously near the centre on Friday night.
“Witnesses should ring Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455, quoting incident number 299 of 27 August, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
