People in Lichfield are being urged to become fire service volunteers.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding an open day at the city’s fire station from 10am to 3pm on March 28 for people who want to find out more.
The volunteer role involves assisting fire officers by visiting the community to give safety advice, representing the service at events, collecting information and trends of deliberate fire setting and providing administrative support.
Risk reduction officer, James Hettihewa-Young, said:
“We already have successful volunteer schemes running in Newcastle under Lyme and Stafford and so now we are looking to role the scheme out in Lichfield. This is a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer or those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills.
“The volunteers will become involved in delivering a valuable service to the community, where they will meet new people, work as part of a friendly team and gain new knowledge and skills.“
Volunteers need to be aged 18 and over, with no upper age limit, and be able to commit to a minimum of fours hours volunteering per month. Full training will be given.
