Door to door salesmen are being given the cold shoulder in parts of Lichfield and Burntwood.
A series of ‘no cold calling’ zones are being set up across the region to stop people selling goods or offering services on the doorstep.
Residents joining the scheme will be given a sign to deter callers as well as information on who to contact if they are approached.
Councillor Colin Greatorex, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community, Housing & Health, said: “We’re launching the no cold calling zones along with our partners to combat distraction burglaries and rogue trading across Lichfield District.
“Signs will be displayed that warn people they are entering an area where goods and services are not bought from uninvited sales people. We will supply the signs, as well as door and window stickers, and an information pack with leaflets about community safety issues.”
Inspector Rachel Joyce, Lichfield Police Commander, added: “Most people who call at your home are genuine although some may turn up unannounced and try and trick their way into your property. They may even turn up as builders or gardeners and try and talk you into paying large amounts of money for unnecessary work.
“The no cold calling zones work as they not only put off would-be intruders, they also serve to remind residents to be aware of this type of crime by providing information about how to deal with an uninvited caller.”
