Lichfield City FC were given a tough welcome to the Midland Combination Premier Division as they went down 4-1 at Nuneaton Griff.
Russell Dodd’s men had an early warning when the ball was hacked off the line in the very first minute.
After a break in play due to lightning, Nuneaton returned with their shooting boots as Aden Moore netted a first half hat-trick.
Lichfield gave themselves hope before the break, though, with Mark Rose firing the ball home from the penalty spot.
The City striker could have reduced the deficit once more from 12 yards out after the interval, but he saw his second spot kick of the game saved.
His miss was punished when Moore added to his hat-trick with a fourth goal just before the final whistle.
Lichfield will return to action with a home game against Bloxwich United tomorrow (August 7), kick-off 7.45pm.
