Burntwood councillors are holding an advice surgery for residents worried about changes to the council tax benefit system.
The Labour group representatives will be at Burntwood Library from 10am to 11am on March 2.
Summerfield Ward representative, Cllr Steve Norman, said: “There are big changes about to take place with council tax and council tax benefit.
“The benefit changes follow the Government’s 10 per cent cut in the funds they give to Lichfield District Council for this purpose and is causing widespread concern. If residents have worries about this, they can come and discuss them with us.”
Chase Terrace’s Cllr Sue Woodward has also raised the issue of changes to payment dates with the council.
“Those who pay by monthly instalments will have received a letter telling them that the payment day has changed from the eighth of the month to the first of the month,” she said. “While this won’t affect the majority of people, that week may make all the difference with people staying in credit or becoming overdrawn in their bank accounts.
“I was given assurances by the Council Leader, however, that if this causes anyone difficulty, they can apply to the council to keep their payment date as it is – it’s a pity that the letter doesn’t say this though.”
