Local organisations have tested their abilities to respond to an emergency during a simulation exercise in Burntwood.
The town’s leisure centre became a centre for ‘evacuees’ in the drill, which was designed to replicate the aftermath of an unexploded World War Two bomb being found.
Council staff managed the rest centre, while teams from St John’s Ambulance practiced their role in giving initial first aid. Members of Lichfield District Community Volunteer Service took on the part of evacuees.
Councillor Colin Greatorex, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet member for housing and health, said the process was a useful one.
“Running these sorts of exercises is a good way to test our procedures to make sure the team knows how to respond in a quick and efficient way in an emergency situation.
“We’d like to thank everyone who was involved in the exercise.”
